NOTICE-RENEWAL OF EXPIRING DRIVING LICENCES FOR BATSWANA ABROAD
1.Following the renewal of the new credit card type driving licences which commenced in Botswana in 2008, the Ministry of Works and Transport has received complaints on the indefinite incremental penalty charges (P20 per day) on late renewals. These penalty charges have affected in particular, those working in missions, on training and employed in other countries.
2. Those affected are encouraged and made aware that you are allowed to renew your licences three (3) months before it expires as such they should where possible use this window.
3. Notwithstanding the above and in appreciation of the circumstances some face as stated in paragraph two above it has been decided to put the following measures in place to accommodate such special circumstances of Batswana outside the country by accepting representation of their choice (e.g family member, colleague, friend etc in Botswana) provided the following documents are availed:
a) A copy of the ID (Omang or Passport) of the licence holder (may be faxed) b) A certified copy of the drivers licence (may be faxed) c) A letter or faxed copy of the letter authorizing the representative d) A certified copy of ID of the representative e) The driving licence fee (P70.00) receipt issued
4. When the licence holder is back in Botswana and shows up for the driving licence to be issued he/she will be required to produce the following:
a) The Receipt b) His /her identification (Omang or Passport) c) Undergo eye screening d) Sign DL 1 Application form
